Curry am Rathaus (in English: Curry at the town hall) is just a block or two from school in the Neukölln neighborhood of Berlin. It is directly across Karl Marx Straße from the always busy Neukölln town hall.
What Did I Have?
I had a currywurst with casing and fries with mayo. Both the fries and the sausage cost 1.70 Euro and, rare for Europe, ketchup and mayo are free! As a bit of a diversion from the regular order, I asked for mine to be ein bisschen sharf (a little spicy).
The sausage here was great. It was fresh and nicely spiced with a good snap to the casing. The sauce was reminiscent of Zur Bratpfanne, tangy, a little sweet, and a thicker consistency that the average place. Overall, this was a good currywurst and I appreciated the added heat from my asking for it to be spicy.
The fries on the other hand were a catastrophe. The oil was either not hot enough or they didn’t cook them long enough. Either way, these were sad and soggy. However, I will go back and try the fries again because they had just dealt with a large group of people with 6 or 7 orders of fries and they may not have let the oil get back up to the proper temperature.
Overall rating: Currywurst: 4.25 out of 5 | Fries: provisionally a 1 out of 5
